Honest Feedback from Real Projects

"We started with the Sheltered Conversation because we weren't ready to commit to anything bigger, and honestly that was the right call. The spatial notes Nadia gave us changed how we saw our living room entirely. We went ahead with the full design after that and haven't looked back."

Syafiqah Fadzillah

Bangsar South Β· April 2025

"The material choices they made for our dining area have aged so well β€” and that was the thing I was most worried about. We have two kids and I told them straight that it had to look like a home, not a showroom. They understood that immediately."

Reza Ismail

Damansara Heights Β· March 2025

"Communication was excellent throughout β€” I always knew what was happening on site. The timber wall panelling in our study took a bit longer to source than originally expected, but the result was worth the wait. They kept us in the loop the whole time."

Lim Wei Xin

Petaling Jaya Β· February 2025

"We engaged Canopy & Grain for our guesthouse in Ampang. Their hospitality experience really showed β€” they understood that the space needed to feel personal and welcoming, not like a hotel chain. Guests still comment on it."

Nazira Mahmud

Ampang Β· March 2025

"Azrul has a very precise eye for spatial proportion. He picked up on something about our living room ceiling height that I'd never consciously noticed but had always felt. The rattan and pale timber they introduced changed the whole mood of the apartment."

TK

Tan Kai Sheng

Mont Kiara Β· January 2025

"I appreciated that they didn't push me toward any particular style. They listened carefully and then showed me options that actually reflected what I'd described. The final space is calm and functional β€” exactly what I needed after a long day."

A Closer Look at Three Projects

Challenge

Family Home Felt Disconnected

A three-bedroom apartment in Bangsar had been furnished in pieces over years. Each room worked on its own terms but the whole felt fragmented and harder to relax in than the family expected.

Our Approach

A Unifying Material Palette

We introduced a consistent thread of warm timber tones, natural linen upholstery, and a shared lighting temperature across all rooms. No major structural changes β€” the work was in material consistency and flow.

Result

A Home That Feels Whole

The family reported that the space felt significantly calmer within the first few weeks. No single dramatic change β€” just everything finally reading as one considered environment. Completed in 8 weeks.

"It's as if someone finally said what the apartment had been trying to say all along." β€” Client, Bangsar

Challenge

Guesthouse Without a Sense of Place

A boutique stay in Ampang wanted to feel distinctly Malaysian and naturally warm β€” not generic resort style. Previous design attempts had missed that mark.

Our Approach

Local Craft, Local Materials

We sourced locally made rattan and bamboo elements, worked with a craftsman from Kelantan for handwoven textile accents, and used a warm earth palette anchored in tropical wood species.

Result

Guest Occupancy Up 34%

Within six months of reopening, the property saw a measurable uptick in bookings. Reviews consistently mentioned the atmosphere as a differentiator. Completed in 14 weeks.

"Guests keep asking where we found our craftspeople. We couldn't have done that without Canopy & Grain." β€” Property owner, Ampang

Challenge

Home Office That Felt Too Corporate

A professional working from home needed a dedicated study that was productive and focused without feeling like a workplace he couldn't relax in after hours.

Our Approach

Warm Work, Warm Rest

We designed the room with a daylight-spectrum task light alongside warm ambient lamps. Timber shelving, tactile desk surface, and a reading corner with different character from the desk area gave the room two distinct modes.

Result

One Room, Two Useful Lives

The client described it as the room he goes to now even when he isn't working. Completed in 6 weeks as part of the Canopy Design Service.

"I booked a holiday and still found myself sitting in there on day one. That says something." β€” Client, Mont Kiara
